The RNLI will host a summer fundraising event.

The search and rescue charity continues celebrations of its 200th anniversary with a carnival parade from Denton Island and a fair at Fort Road Recreation Ground, Newhaven, on July 6.

The fair will feature stalls, attractions, a bar, a barbecue, children’s funfair rides, games, bungee trampolines, and Pirelli’s Formula One Simulator.

The Argus:

Carol Shewell, events coordinator for Newhaven RNLI, said: “This event brings our local community together to raise much-needed funds to keep our lifeboat and crew ready and equipped to save lives at sea and to have fun whilst doing so.”

Visitors can meet the RNLI crew, watch them display rope-throwing techniques, and observe the fire, police, and the coastguard’s emergency vehicles.

There will be performances from local singers, bands, and dance groups, including Julie Terry, Tallulah Christou, Devilove, The National Game, and Rio Dance Troupe.

Local community groups, youth groups, and businesses will participate in the parade.

The Coastguard and the National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) will also attend this event.

The festivities will be free and last from 10am to 10pm.
