A village beach that has been named one of the greatest in Britain has been described as "old worldly" by visitors.

Rottingdean Beach in East Sussex was listed as one of the best in the country by The Telegraph this year.

According to Tripadvisor reviews, the same sentiment has been shared by visitors, with the stretch of coastline having an average five-star rating.

One visitor said: "Lovely old worldy beach.

"Great spot to swim. Nice café on the beach and toilets as well as shower.

"The beach is minutes from several pubs and restaurants, an ice cream shop and a chip shop."

Another visitor said that there was plenty to do.

They said: "Great fun.

"Rottingdean beach has plenty for little ones, especially when the tide is out and the rock pools appear."

A third person said: "Lovely beach, had a nice walk along the undercliff, sat and had a coffee at the café on the beach.

"Really nice place to visit."

The beach was also described as an ideal place for exercise.

One visitor commented: "Lovely quiet beach.

"Quiet pebble beach accessed via a ramp with a paved under cliff walkway. Perfect for a run or dog walk.

"Some shops and long stay and short stay parking nearby. Lovely views as you drive through the village."

The beach is ranked as one of the top things to do in the area.

It is overlooked by chalky white cliffs and has a walkway suitable for wheelchairs and prams.

The beach only has four reviews on Tripadvisor, with three of these being five-star ratings.
