Roberto De Zerbi has revealed Albion were driven by stung pride – and thoughts of revenge – as they beat Aston Villa.

Joao Pedro headed a late winner after his penalty had been parried by outstanding goalkeeper Robin Olsen.

It was a first win in seven games for the Seagulls and the top scorer became the first Albion man to net in six matches.

Albion boss De Zerbi said: “I am proud because we played a great game against one of the best teams in the Premier League.

“They are fourth in the table.

“Playing against the team of Unai Emery is very tough.

“We played a good game, we played well, we deserved to win, we could score more.

“When you lose 30 at Bournemouth, when you are making these bad results, after that you have to show the pride, the attitude.

“I think we showed that today.

Albion lost 6-1 at Villa Park earlier in the season – just ahead of getting their fist Europa League point at Marseille.

De Zerbi said: “I spoke about that (game at Villa Park) in the meeting this morning.”
