On-street and off-street parking is increasing today across the city. The council says the controversial move will help fix potholes and fund buses.
Parking charges across Brighton and Hove are increasing by an average of six per cent from today. The cost of parking in council car parks and parking permits are also changing.
The changes come after uproar from residents forced the council to U-turn on plans to up charges in light tough parking zones and near the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
Parking permit prices and charges in council cark parks will also rise.

A Brighton and Hove City Council spokesman said: “Following feedback from residents, we have halved a planned increase to the cost of parking permits in all Light Touch zones.
“This funding is essential to providing access to communities, health, education and leisure services for residents, businesses and visitors across the city.”
The new charges were approved by the council earlier this year and will appear on the PayByPhone app from today.
The council said that revenue from parking charges will be used to support transport in the city including fixing potholes and running buses.
Last year £10 million made from parking fees was spent on concessionary bus passes for the elderly and disabled.
