A restaurant for music-lovers which only plays vinyl records is opening this week.

Drifter is inspired by Japan’s analogue listening bars where people go to listen to music.

The restaurant will also serve wood-fired small plates and a drinks menu focused on natural wines.

It is opening this Thursday at midday in King’s Road Arches near Shelter Hall in Brighton.

“We wanted to create a relaxed space on the seafront that represents the diversity and vibrancy of Brighton’s food and music scene,” said hospitality consultant Jake Northcote-Green.

The restaurant is being opened by Rob Shenton, owner of Riddle and Finn’s seafood restaurant in Brighton, and Charlie Bunn, owner of Hickstead Estate.

It will  offer an “inventive yet simple menu based around top-quality, locally sourced seafood cooked in a wood-fired oven”.

Music played at the restaurant will include low-key jazz, 90s hip hop, soul and African disco.

Jake said: “We chose a strictly vinyl music policy as these recordings represent a moment in time. It’s someone saying: look at what I have created, please enjoy it. I love that.”

The restaurant will host regular collaborations and events.

The 70-cover, two-storey site has an outdoor terrace with views over the beach.
