Roberto De Zerbi said he was delighted for Julio Enciso after he shone at Newcastle.
Enciso was a constant threat in the No.10 role on his longest appearance since helping beat Wolves 4-1 last August.
Albion boss De Zerbi said: “Today I am really happy for Julio Enciso.
“He deserved to play a game like he played today.
“He didn’t play this season, like Evan Ferguson, and I am sorry for that because we lost two big players for us.
“Okay, they are not big players yet but for us it was a big miss.
“If you remember how Evan Ferguson and Enciso finished last season, they were both crucial to reach the Europa League.
“This season, more or less they have never played. For us, it was tough.”
