A driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing the death of a young mother-of-three who was killed after being struck by a car as she stood outside a pub.

Former Steyning Grammar School pupil Kayleigh Quinn, who recently moved from Storrington near Worthing, died at the scene of the crash on a busy road.

The 27-year-old, described by her devastated father Anthony Quinn as “spirited”, had three young children aged seven, five and two.

Kayleigh looked after them by herself and the children are currently being cared for by family.

Yesterday Mr Quinn, of Storrington, said: “She was a very lively, friendly and kind girl.

“She was fun-loving and loved her children.

“That’s how she will be remembered.”

He added: “She was a very bright girl.”

Her family, including mother, Michelle, continued: “She was a very spirited and fun-loving person.

"Kayleigh had a very kind and caring nature and was always trying to help others.

“She loved spending time caring for her horses but her greatest love was for her three children.

“They meant the whole world to her.”

Her sister Kirsten has changed her Facebook profile picture to one of her and her sister and friends have made kind comments underneath it.

Kayleigh died at the scene of the crash on a busy road in Plaitford, Hampshire, after being struck by a Volkswagen Golf at 11.15pm on September 25.

Hampshire Police alerted their colleagues in Sussex who visited Kayleigh’s family to pass on the tragic news.

Flowers and tributes were left at the roadside in memory of Kayleigh who was living in Fordingbridge, Hampshire, when she died.

On her Facebook profile she confirmed she hailed from Sussex.

One card read: “You were the love of my life. You will be badly missed. Gone but never forgotten. I love you so much babe.”

Another read: “Can’t believe you are gone. You will always be in our hearts. You will be missed so much.”

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: “The Volkswagen driver, a 45-year-old man from Portsmouth was shaken, but not injured.

“He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and attention and was bailed until October 31 pending police inquiries.

“The road was closed for around six hours to allow for a full investigation and recovery of the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and anyone with information should contact 101 quoting Operation Subdivision.”

Kayleigh’s funeral will take place in Worthing Crematorium on Mon- day at 11am. Flowers welcome, donations preferred, to Chestnut Tree House c/o H.D. Tribe Ltd., 19 West Street, Storrington.
