Generous shoppers did Santa proud when they donated sack-loads of toys to disadvantaged children.

Before Christmas, The Argus Appeal called for the donation of Christmas presents that would be sent to cheer up children who come from families with low incomes.

After a successful three-week appeal, hundreds of kind-hearted shoppers across Sussex dug deep to donate gifts.

Stores that accepted donations included Asda in Hollingbury, Brighton, Tesco Travel Money in Littlehampton, Thomas Cook in Rustington and The Co-Operative Travel in West Durrington.

Charlene Allen, cluster manager for both The Co-operative Travel in West Durrington and Thomas Cook in Rustington, said: “This is the first year The Co-operative Travel in West Durrington has joined forces with Thomas Cook in Rustington for this fantastic appeal.

“I would like to say a huge thankyou to for all the donations and every single person that has helped make a difference.”

The Argus Appeal has been working in the Sussex community for almost 55 years.

It aims to raise at least £200,000 each year to help vital and important organisations and charities across the region.

Darren Evans, store manager at Asda Hollingbury, said: “This is the best year we have had for this since we started.

“It astounds me the amount of money our customers raise.”
