Police have released CCTV after a group of friends were attacked when they tried to stop a man being beaten up.

As previously reported the victims were on their way home after a night out when they found a man on the mid level of Madeira Terrace, Brighton, being assaulted by a group of men at about 4.40am on Saturday, October 5 last year.

They intervened and the 20-year-olds were themselves attacked, sustaining serious injuries.

One suffered a stab wound to the hand, one a stab wound to the throat and the third a head injury after he was hit with a weapon.

The friends ran off towards Palace Pier being chased by the offenders but were caught outside the Harvester restaurant in Marine Parade and the violence continued.

Detective Constable Paul Ash said: "A number of people have been arrested over the attack but we would still like to speak to the man in the CCTV about what happened.

"If you know who or where he is please contact us.

"There were a lot of people in the area at the time leaving bars and clubs and I am hoping some of them can identify the man or any of those responsible for the violence."

An 18-year-old and a 17-year-old from Brighton have been arrested and questioned on suspicion of assault. Both have been released on bail while enquiries continue.

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting serial 300 of October 5 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
