A distraction burglar stole valuable jewellery from an elderly Peacehaven resident.

The man called at a bungalow in Firle Avenue, Peacehaven between 1.40pm and 1.45pm on Friday January 31.

He asked the 87-year woman living there if she had any valuable items for sale. As he was doing so he looked around the property and when he left the woman realised that a gold necklace and four rings, valued together at several thousand pounds, had been taken.

The man is described as white, in his forties, about 5'9" and smartly dressed in a grey suit. He had short dark smart greying hair.

Detective Constable Richard Davidson of the East Sussex Priority Crime Team said; "We would like to find this man as soon as possible before someone else becomes a victim of his unpleasant trick.

"If you saw him in the Peacehaven area on Friday or if you have been approached by someone of that description, please contact us via 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.ukquoting serial 0759 of 31/1.

"Please also remember, try not to let cold callers in. If in doubt keep them out and call us via 999 if they are still present, or call 101 at any other time to report suspicions or for advice from our local neighbourhood teams on how to respond to such callers."
