'Scarlett Johanssons' protest outside Brighton shop

The Argus: 'Scarlett Johanssons' protest outside Brighton shop 'Scarlett Johanssons' protest outside Brighton shop

An army of Hollywood lookalikes carried out a protest outside a high street shop.

More than a dozen Scarlett Johanssons gathered outside the Ecostream store in Western Road in Brighton on Saturday as part of an ongoing protest about the firm’s factory in Israel.

The real Scarlett Johansson quit her role as an Oxfam ambassador amid a row over her support as a brand ambassador for Ecostream’s parent company SodaStream, which operates in the occupied West Bank.

Protesters have been carrying out weekly demonstrations outside the shop since it opened in September 2012 and have vowed to continue until the business closes.

Spooky. I had a dream about a dozen Scarlett Johanssons last night.

Admittedly it had absolutely nothing to do with Oxfam, Israel or the West Bank.

There was most definitely a SodaStream though......

Why don't this lot, all 12 of them, get on a train a stand outside Sodastream's head office instead of making a nuisance of themselves on Western Road every Saturday?

If they must stand outside the Brighton shop, then they should have to arrange it properly like all of the other protests in town or get booked for wasting police time (which they are undoubtedly doing). I often see a van full of policemen and women sitting there all of whom could be doing something more useful.

Now where is that water cannon.....

If (G-d forbid) the Palestinian Arabs get a State from stealing the heartland of Judea and Samaria the SodaStream factory will actually become part of Israel in land-swap deals.
The BDS protest has very little to do with the SodaStream factory, that is a convenient excuse and a smokescreen for them to promote their agenda which is the deconstruction of Israel.
Many of the students and others wearing the lovely Scarlett masks are just one-off protesters who are compelled to swell the ranks for the publicity, most will not bother to turn up again, and those that do will probably not really be able to give a solid reply as to why they are protesting against a local shop that supplies goods from a factory that employs 500 plus Arabs that do not want the BDS protest to continue.

What would happen to all those Palestinian workers if Sodastream were to disappear? No job, no security. Great! Perhaps the protesters ought to be thinking about that instead of leading them into unemployment. Of course they can always join Hamas or Herzbollah and fire rockets into Israel, or plant bombs on buses in public areas, but there is not much financial gain there.
Meanwhile, how about a protest about the persecution of Christians in Arab countries? How about the torture and executions of gay men and women? How about the treatment of women generally? No murmur about that at all. At least those accusations cannot be laid at Israel's door. Let's face it. These protests are anti-semitic and its Leftist followers resent the success that the country has achieved in science, medicine, the arts etc.
I have not been all that keen on Scarlett as an actress. Now I admire her as a woman.

The use of white phosphorus is not against international law. - It was used to stop Hamas firing rockets at Israeli civilians. Israel has a legal right (under international law) to defend itself.

But back to the article.
The Arab workers at the plant have told newspapers they back Ms Johansson, not Oxfam, as closing the plant would kill their jobs.
Israel & the Palestinian Authority are presently engaged in direct peace negotiations regarding the disputed territories. The Arab & Israeli workers do not need Oxfam's publicity seeking gesture.

AH ,It took me ages but at last I understand the logic.
Oxfam supports a protest that 500 or so palestinian soda stream factory workers are against ,as they wish to keep working, but that can'rt be allowed as Oxfam wants them out of work so they can support and feed the hungry of the world who, will have added to their ranks, 500 odd factory workers.
Great self fulfilling system to keep Oxfam going ,which is the most important part of the Agenda, after all.
Aren't we mollycoddled arrogant westerners in a great position to understand and solve all of the worlds problems just by taking sides without really understanding anything. Doesn't matter though, as we will all be tucked up in our little beds quite satisfied as we have shouted and the world has heard us, hasn't it?.

I'm not a member of EDL I just object to a country bulldozing innocent peoples house ( i.e. mass punishment ) and using white phosphorus ( against international law ). Both of which Israel has done. That makes Israel a criminal state.
And Hamas and all their frinds are totally spotless? Israel is not perfect but at least they dont go chopping peoples heads off or hanging them because they are gay. We all laugh in your face armchair biggot.

If they must stand outside the Brighton shop, then they should have to arrange it properly like all of the other protests in town or get booked for wasting police time (which they are undoubtedly doing). I often see a van full of policemen and women sitting there all of whom could be doing something more useful.

Now where is that water cannon.....
Yeah a real bummer that they can continually point out the absolute wrongness of stealing someone else's land and resources and you can't stop them.
The "wrongness" is their view which they are entitled too.
But why should I pay for it week in, week out?
By lazily staying in the same place (probably near home), they are actually damaging their cause. And yes, I did say lazily. Probably nice and near home - I bet they couldn't believe their luck when Sodastream opened so conveniently for Waitrose.

Which country has ignored more UN resolutions than any other?

If you can answer that correctly you will understand what the main impediment to peace in the middle east is!

Supporting a boycott of products produced on occupied land is not anti-semitic - it is a protest against an occupying power, not a religion.

Sadly many cannot understand that distinction!

Both sides have no idea, for one thing if any of them have ever bothered to open a history book or even used this new amazing thing called the internet, they might be surprised to know that what we call Israel now has been occupied many many times and by lots of different cultures, even the British had a short period of occupation tho more as caretakers after the Ottoman Empire dissolved.
Of course this all stems back to a pi****g contest of "my gods better than your god" and 2000 yrs of "sheep" control.
Also, can anyone direct me to an UN-bias report about ecostream, I can only find stuff that's either by the company or by the we hate Israel groups as either one or both are lying.

"Adolf"?

So anyone who is appalled by Israels disgusting treatment of the Palestinians - stealing the land, incarcerating 1m plus people in the biggest concentration camp in world history (Gaza) and burning the flesh off the occupants with white phosphorus - is a Fascist?

And you call yourself 'Dealing With Idiots'? I would suggest a quick look in the mirror.

This area is designated for homeless drinking people, bus lanes and cycle paths and whilst protests are always encouraged, this particular cause isn't fully compliant with Green policy

Bearing in mind the protestors concern about Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, let them explain why have failed to make any criticism of other occupations including in particular, Turkey’s occupation of Northern Cyprus, China’s occupation of Tibet, Russia’s occupation of Chechnya and Iraq’s refusal to give the Kurds a State of their own, Great Britain’s occupation of the Falklands, Gibraltar, Northern Ireland, all of which are on all fours and in some cases far worse with the plight of the Palestinians.

Surely, these hypocrites will now show that they do not discriminate against Israel, the only Jewish country in the world which would indicate that they are anti semitic by demonstrating outside the numerous shops that sell products from these countries.

And this is one of the many lies told by the Zionists. They have absolutely no evidence that the protestors only focus on the Zionist entity. The circumstances of each of the aforementioned ‘occupations’ are different, how on earth you can compare the Zionist occupation of Palestine to Britain’s occupation of the Falkland Islands/Malvinas!?!

As for The Kurds, Ireland, Tibet etc, if you bothered to look you may well find that there are many people objecting to those occupations, and I bet that many of them also object to the Zionist occupation, and vice versa, but that doesn’t suite your racist agenda, does it, whereby Israel’s so called rights are far more important than anybody else’s? Equally, if the Zionists are so concerned about other people’s rights & other occupations, why did the collaborate so much with Apartheid South Africa?

As for the Sodastream shop, I personally couldn’t give a monkey’s, both sets of protestors are a nuisance. It’s a rubbish unhealthy product and I bet the place would’ve closed ages ago if it’d been ignored, as there’s never any customers when I’ve passed it.
