Gale force winds left a trail of destruction overnight as Sussex felt the full force of another storm.

Winds of up to 80mph battered the county last night and this morning leaving chaos in its wake.

Fire crews had one of their busies nights with callouts to numerous dangerous structures due to the high winds.

Brighton seafront was flooded last night with the flood water captured by Fresh to Death on Twitter.

The Argus:

West Sussex Fire and Rescue said dangerous structures and trees blown down were "widespread" across their area.

There was also flooding in Bosham and Selsey.

It was the same story for East Sussex Fire and Rescue who were called out more than a dozen times due to dangerous structures and the same again for flash floods in Seaford, Telscombe Cliffs, Crowborough and Hailsham.

The winds have left the rail network facing disruptions.

Southern Rail said a number of trees have fallen on to lines and are causing disruption across its network resulting in delays and short notice cancellations.

Its coastal services are also subject to speed restrictions as a precautionary measure in light of the highspeed winds forecast.

A spokesman added: "Network Rail and Southern are working together with the Environment Agency to keep track of water levels in Sussex over the next few days of bad weather.

"Over the next few days, we will aim to provide progress updates on the areas of anticipated risk. Please check before you travel."
