An innovative Worthing couple have launched a social media website for school parents.

Alan and Fiona McKinney, both 34, came up with the concept to help parents find information about their children’s schooling.

The not-for-profit site, which was launched by the Worthing couple last week, now provides parents with help with everything from uniforms and childminders to the school run and local events.

Part time web designer, Mr McKinney, said: “Last year we got really frustrated trying to find a website where we could organise things around our children’s school activities and life.

“We needed help at times with the school run, wanted to get second hand school uniforms and find out about school events all in one place. But nothing existed.

“We have spent a year and all our money building a free community driven website that offers just that.”

The pair started out by buying a database with details for every primary school in the country.

Parents then simply sign up to their school, which has its own dedicated section of the site.

There they will find five sub-sections which users can contribute to.

The first provides a forum for parents to organise and share lifts on the school run.

The second is a sort of swap shop for old school uniforms while the third is a space for discussions about childminders.

The fourth is dedicated to parents new to the area with links to making friends, finding out about services and more.

The final section is for posting and organising local events with a space also for businesses and local firms to advertise their related products and services.

The idea for the site came after West Sussex County Council announced proposals for a restructuring of the schools system in Worthing.

Mr McKinney lives with his wife and four children Caitlyn, six, Harry, four, Colby, two and Ellis five months, in Browning Road in the town.

He added: “We both realised there wasn’t really anywhere where you could get all this information in one place.

“We wanted to make it as useful but also as easy and quick to use as possible.

“Being a parent is a busy job so users need to be able to log on to read a few messages and then jump off. Hopefully we have done just that.”
