9:42am Sunday 2nd March 2014 in News
Three people had to be rescued after their boat ran aground with no safety equipment on board.
The Newhaven Coastguard was called out to Seaford beach on Saturday night where the small boat was resting on the shingle.
It had gone aground earlier in the day and the three people had attempted to re-float but they were unsuccessful.
The trio tried again at high tide but the boat would not move and the they called the coastguard for help at around 9.15pm.
After checking the scene, coastguards called out the Newhaven RNLI lifeboat for help.
A tow line was successfully passed from the lifeboat to the coastguards on the beach and after securing it to the vessel, the crew were able to tow it safely back into deep water.
The vessel was returned to a temporary berth in Newhaven Marina.
In a message posted on Facebook, the coastguard said safety advice was given to the three people on board the boat because they did it not have lifejackets, flares or a a VHF radio with them.
