WITH VIDEO: Daredevils enjoyed the balmy weather by putting up slacklines on Brighton beach yesterday morning.

In the shadow of the West Pier, acrobats set up elasticised cables between the old pillars that used to hold up the pier’s long-demolished concert hall and performed a series of stunts, tricks and flips in the sun.

Ed Worsley, said: “It is a really laid-back sport with a lot of community to it and everyone starts at the same level.

“It is so much fun. It involves balance and focus but anyone can jump on and have a go to we have had everyone from people in their sixties from toddlers come and try it out.”

The Brighton beach slackliners perform tricklining – which features stunts such as knee drops, turns, Buddha sits, jumps and flips.

Ed added that the West Pier site is ideal for slacklining because of the old pillars that stand on the pebble beach – and said they are making use of the landmark.

The Brighton slacklining community organises meets through the Facebook group Slacklining Brighton, UK and arranges sessions either on the beach or in Blakers Park.

Ed said: “With slacklining we are just a group of like-minded, really nice people – it is almost a lifestyle.”

Slacklining is different from tightrope walking as slacklines are not held taught and instead stretch and bounce – like a narrow trampoline.
