Two adorable puppies are desperately seeking a loving new home after being dumped in a cardboard box near a bus stop.

The Staffordshire bull terrier cross puppies, named Snuggle and Puggle, are now in the care of the Blue Cross animal charity, based in St Francis Fields, Northiam.

Maria Steel, centre manager, urged kind-hearted animal lovers to come forward to re-home them.

She said: “Snuggle and Puggle and their two siblings were far too young to be separated from their mother.

“It’s really lucky they were found when they were, or they probably wouldn’t have survived.”

A passer-by was making his way to the bus stop in Cranbrook when he spotted a cardboard box which appeared to be moving.

When he went for a closer look he discovered four tiny puppies clambering for space and whimpering.

The four – who are believed to be brothers and sisters – were dumped without their mother.

The man managed to re-home two of the pups but couldn’t find takers for little Snuggle and Puggle.

He called Blue Cross for help and the pair are now being cared for by a volunteer foster carer until they are old enough to find permanent new homes.

Maria Steel pleaded with those who cannot afford to keep their pets to bring them in rather than dumping them on the streets.

She said: “Sadly, unwanted puppies and kittens are becoming more common. If only more people would get their pets neutered, we wouldn’t be faced with the problem of so many pets being given up.

“But if you do have pets that you can’t care for, please come to an organisation like Blue Cross for help, rather than abandoning them to fend for themselves.”

Snuggle and Puggle will be available for re-homing in the next couple of weeks.
