Saltdean Lido set to reopen in 2016
Work to bring a 1930s lido back into use is gathering pace after stagnant water was drained from the attraction’s pool.
Costing more than £16,000 the work will now allow for a full structural survey to establish what work is needed to bring the Saltdean Lido pool back into use.
The results of the survey are ex-pected within a matter of weeks.
The lido’s original pump room, which contains the vital equip-ment needed to run a pool, has already been condemned. Lease-holders Saltdean Lido CIC is looking to replace it with an energy efficient system.
It is hoped that the pool will be reopened to the public in 2016.
The grounds will be open to the public for the first time in sever-al years over the weekend of June 6 and 7 for a beer and wine festival when tours of the lido building will be offered.
Rebecca Crook, director of Saltdean Lido CIC, said: “The past month has been extremely positive. There is lots of progress, which is great for local people to see that something is eventually happening at the pool, so it’s a real milestone.”
