A city brewer is taking a major hop in a new direction after announcing plans to open their first pub.

The pub, which will be known as The Brighton Beer Dispensary, will open next Thursday.

It will replace the Prince Arthur pub in Dean Street.

Brewery Brighton Bier Company said that they were looking to tap into the growing thirst for real ale which continues to grow in Brighton and Hove and across the country in general.

As well as having four ales and four ciders on the bar handpulls, the pub will also have three keg beers and up to a further six ales available which will be “gravity dispensed” direct from the cask racked on stillage racks next to the bar.

Since the company’s formation two years ago, it has grown steadily merging with Bexhill-based Franklins Brewery and wholesaler and distributor With Soul.

The company, which has a brewery based in Kemp Town, currently supply a number of pubs in Brighton and Hove, the South East and London.

Director Stephen Whitehurst, who runs the firm with fellow directors Ollie Fisher, Gary Sillence and Steven Medniuk, said he hoped that the pub could offer customers “something a bit different”.

He said: “There will be a whole range of beers from around the county behind the bar and we will also have beer that will be dispensed from a firkin, it will be a pretty broad range on offer.

“A lot of pubs stock our beer but with the new pub, people will know they can get our beer all the time and it will be a great showcase for our brewery.

“We are Brighton Bier and we want to be synonymous with the city.

“People are getting more and more interested in real ale, young and old alike from all backgrounds.

“There are a lot of breweries growing up, a huge number in Sussex, and all over the country and hopefully as a wholesale it will make it easier for us to source all these beers so we will have a lot of Sussex beers and ciders on offer.”
