She may be younger than the process itself, but a six-year-old has been honoured with an award for taking a stanza on fracking.

The short and sweet anti-fracking poem was written by Angelina Green-Thakar and was rewarded in a national competition.

The judges said she was “very current in her thinking” and awarded her in the under-eight section of the Global Canvas Art Competition for poetry.

The theme was It's Our World and the Lewes Grammar School pupil wrote the poem against fracking proposals on the South Downs.

Her mother Marina said: "She likes to take part in poetry competitions, as does her elder sister and they've had quite a bit of success, although they've only been doing it since last September."

The artist and outspoken conservationist David Shepherd and television vet Steve Leonard presented Angelina with her award during a ceremony at the Natural History Museum in London.

The school's operations manager Tim Laker said: "This is wonderful news and we are all very proud of Angelina.

“She has a love for words and a natural ability for poetry which we nurture at our junior school - Morley House."

Please Don't Frack The South Downs
by Angelina Green-Thakar

Please don't frack the South Downs,

For we all need healthy water,

For us to live,

Don't think about money,

Think about the children's safety.
