A primary school has announced plans to convert to an academy.

Parents at Blacklands Primary School in Hastings will be consulted ahead of the planned move in September.

Academy network ARK, who already run 27 schools, has put itself forward to take on the school.

If the plans go ahead the school will be non-selective and non-religious and admit boys and girls. Current pupils and staff would transfer to the new school.

The move comes following the recent appointment of headteacher Lorraine Clarke.

She said: “We think that by working with a really strong network our school can really thrive. We will maintain the unique character and atmosphere of Blacklands, working closely with parents and pupils.

“But this is a great opportunity to push our school to raise standards.”

Consultation on the move begins with an open meeting on April 29 at 5pm. The consultation period will run until May 2. Anyone who wants to submit their views should call 020 3116 0764 or email Amy.Timmins@arkonline.org.
