Thousands of pounds worth of jewellery, electronics and a meerkat toy were stolen during a daytime burglary.

Intruders broke a window at a house in Wear Road, Worthing, to get inside the home.

When the victims returned their home had been searched and electrical items, jewellery, shoes and bags had been stolen.

The electrical items include an ACER laptop, a Kindle Fire HDX, a Kindle Fire HD, a Kindle Paperwhite, an Apple iPad 3, a red Nintendo DS and a pink Nintendo 3DS.

The jewellery includes a gold ring with the victim's initials on it, a silver Oyster Perpetual Rolex, a jewellery box with an elephant on the lid and Chanel earrings as well as gold and silver rings, chains and earrings.

Other items that were taken include grey Gucci driving shoes, brown Guess trainers, a G classic design Gucci bag and even a Bogdan Meerkat toy

Detective Constable Sarah Thurgood said: "We believe the burglars took the items away in pillowcases they had also stolen from the house.

"Some of these items belong to a young child at the address and I would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in Wear Road, anyone who has been offered any of these items or anyone who has information, to contact us."

Sussex Police launched Operation Magpie to tackle burglary across the county.

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting serial 908 of 16/4, email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
