A woman was repeatedly punched in the face by another woman while walking home.

The victim was walking in Silchester Road, St Leonards, between 9.30pm and 10pm on Monday 14 April when she was punched several times in the face by a woman.

The 35-year-old was taken to Conquest Hospital in St Leonards for treatment for severe bruising and swelling to her face.

The attacker was white, 40 to 45, about 5' 8" and of medium build with shoulder length dark hair.

A 42-year-old woman from St Leonards was arrested on suspicion of assault. She was questioned before being released on bail until 1 May while officers carry out further inquiries.

A police spokesman said: "The victim has suffered very nasty injuries to her face and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw her being attacked.

"If you were in Silchester Road or the area nearby on Monday evening and saw or heard what happened, please contact us."
