March for England route slightly altered following road collapse

The Argus: March for England route slightly altered following road collapse March for England route slightly altered following road collapse

The route for Sunday's March for England has been slightly altered following the collapse of a road.

Nationalists will now be directed to gather at the bottom of Middle Street in Brighton – rather than West Street as originally planned.

It follows the part collapse of the A259 King’s Road this morning (April 25).

Workmen had been fixing a fire exit at the Fortune of War pub, situated below the road.

Superintendent Steve Whitton said: "We have been working with the council and their engineers to assess the structure of the road and have decided to move the start of the march further eastwards on the A259.

"The march will now start at the A259 junction with Middle Street. They will then march east to the junction of Pool Valley and back again. It will still start no earlier than 12.30pm and finish no later than 1.30pm.

"Our focus is, as always, keeping people safe and we have worked with the council to make sure people taking part in both the march and the counter protest, as well as visitors to the city, are kept safe. For this reason the eastbound carriageway will be completely closed at West Street.

"It is really important people understand that the carriageway is closed for safety reasons and they should not enter the area which is cordoned off under any circumstances.

"Please talk to our officers, who will be very visible in the city, if you have any concerns."

Geoff Raw, from Brighton and Hove City Council, added; "Structural engineers will be working over the weekend to assess the extent of the problem and which seems to have been caused by historic alterations to premises in the arches.

“We're working as swiftly as possible with the police and key partners to ensure public safety and to keep the traffic moving as smoothly as possible.

“A contra flow system is now in place between Middle Street and West Street, please allow extra time for journeys through this area and check the council website for updates."

What a relief. I am sure Her Majesty The Queen will be happy.

We can now celebrate the multi-culture of England today. I hope all ethnic groups are represented on the march.

Well I guess the overtime is already booked for officers 'facilitating' the march so it will have to happen. Why it couldn't be out of the way I've no idea- the recent web chat on the sussex police site implied to me that it wasn't a local decision. If only they had been as keen on facilitating peoples right to protest when the fracking demo happened court costs would have been saved.

If you think brutal sex trafficking of children in every major town and city, and tens of thousands of girls having their clitori ripped off, hundreds of more murdered in racist attacks you never hear on mainstream news, sharia zones, female slavery and clash of civilisations as worthy of celebrating then by all means.

This years march promises to be a bigger farce- those attending have been told to make their way in small groups to the starting point from the station. How could that go wrong? Pubs have been told to close near the station and others will have to hire security, the seafront and laines will lose business. All so that one hundred proud patriots can protest about what exactly? They have announced their intention to cost as much as possible to police and have admitted plans to infiltrate the counter-demo.
Probably will get an even lower turnout as far-right demos haven't done so well lately.

Errr they did facilitate the anti frackers right to demonstrate for about a month or so. If only the anti frackers had been able to control themselves and wait for the test results that showed fracking wouldn't take place they could have saved us £4 million but hey egos needed to put on display and Caroline needed a new bandwagon so sod the tax payers.

Well done march for England, it's funny how lefty liberals say nothing about the annual crimesfest that is the Notting hill carnival celebrating not British but Caribbean culture and costing taxpayers around £4 million pound in policing bills, yet when an Englishmen wants to display his patriotic side it's deemed racist, go figure.

They did facilitate the anti frackers- compare and contrast the two types of facilitation used at Balcome and tomorrow, see if you can spot the difference.
Lucas has been on the same bandwagon her entire political career- say what you like but she's consistent.
