A Rolling Stones' covers band which missed out on last year’s Glastonbury due to a booking mix-up will play this year’s event – thanks to The Argus.

Brighton-based Railing Stains will join the likes of Dolly Parton, The Pixies, Kasabian and Blondie at the Somerset festival in June.

The band members thought they were set to play the Worthy Farm event last year on the same night as their idols, The Rolling Stones.

But the booking was an elaborate mix-up, after the boss of the Rabbit Hole stage made up the band name – unaware a real group of musicians called the Railing Stains existed.

Hamish Guerrini, who runs the stage, explained to The Argus he was having trouble finding someone to play on the same night as the rock gods.

He thought he was making up the name – but in the mix-up the band got added to the official programme and BBC staff approached them for an interview.

By the time the situation became clear it was too late for the Railing Stains to perform.

But after pressure from The Argus, Mr Guerrini has agreed to let the band play this year instead.

They will take to the Rabbit Hole stage between 10pm and 11pm on the Saturday night of the festival on June 28.

The venue was the talk of last year’s festival with guests including Prince Harry, Kate Moss and Alexa Chung.

Lead singer Bob Ward, from Patcham, said: “It’s going to be a great gig, we can’t wait.

“We were devastated at not being allowed to play last year, we would have given the real Stones a run for their money.”

The band will warm up for their Glastonbury date with a gig at The Social Club, in Church Street, Newhaven, on May 4.

Tickets are free on the door.
