Brighton and Hove Albion has applied for permanent permission to use a plot of land as a car park.
The Seagulls have applied for permission for the permanent use of land known as Bennett’s Field as a car park for 524 vehicles at the American Express Community Stadium.
The application to Lewes District Council is necessary as the original three-year temporary permission to use the land expires on June 30.
The layout of the car park would remain largely the same with no significant additional building work or construction, but the club wants to include pedestrian routes, bollards and galvanised steel hoops which would force motorists to leave the car park along dedicated routes and, the club hopes, in “an orderly fashion”.
More than 40 English oak trees would be planted throughout the 1.5- hectare car park, while a dozen 12m columns would be used for permanent car park lighting.
The application seeks the same permission for use of the car park no more than 50 times a year for outdoor events at the stadium, including two concerts.
A decision on the application is expected next month.
