TRAFFIC restrictions that would ban HGVs and coaches from entering certain parts of Roedean have been approved.

The move comes following a petition by residents who had become annoyed with large vehicles parking in residential areas, blocking the road and causing congestion.

Earlier tonight councillors on Brighton and Hove City Council's Environment, Transport and Sustainability committee approved recommendations that should help alleviate the problem.

Among the recommendations agreed tonight was the introduction of a Traffic Regulation Order banning heavy goods vehicles and public service vehicles except for access in The Cliff, Cliff Road, Cliff Approach, Roedean Crescent, Roedean Way, Roedean Vale and Roedean Heights.

It was also agreed to introduce a 4-hour tariff at the Madeira coach parking facility.

The petition, which was presented to the same committee in January said coaches had been parking in residential streets which are totally unacceptable for traffic.

The Madeira coach parking currently charges £15 to park all day and provides room for 42 coaches.

If no objections are received about the introduction of the TRO then the enforcement could be in place by June.
