Residents are being warned to be vigilant after a spate of car crime.

Police in Littlehampton say thieves have tried to steal a number of vehicles or have dumped stolen ones in the town during April.

A Jeep stolen from Haywards Heath was found crashed in Wick and a Nissan Micra stolen in Rustington was also found in the area.

A Ford Fiesta, a Fiat Punto, a Daihatsu, a Suzuki Vitara, a Fiat and a Peugeot were also stolen and found later in the town.

There have also been attempts to hotwire a Ford Transit in Yapton and a Vauxhall Astra and Jeep Cherokee in Littlehampton.

A number of mopeds have been stolen and other vehicles have been damaged.

PCSO Michelle Davies said: "We would like to speak to anyone who has seen vehicles being interfered with in the town or who has seen people acting suspiciously around them.

"Please ensure you have adequate security for your vehicles.

"It is important to take steps to protect your vehicles and choose appropriate and effective security options. Consider having a Thatcham approved electronic immobiliser professionally fitted.

"If you have a security device fitted, always use it. A wide variety of locks can be used, such as chains or padlocks, disc locks and D-locks."

Anyone with information about vehicle crime should call 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
