Chart toppers the Kaiser Chiefs will play a special gig as part of the Great Escape Festival this afternoon.

Photographer Mike Burnell caught up with the band as they prepared for their secret gig at Concorde 2 scheduled for 1pm.

The band have packed out venues since they released their debut album Employment back in 2004.

Singles such as I Predict a Riot and Ruby have established them as one of the biggest bands in the country.

They were introduced to a new audience this winter when front man Ricky Wilson took up the role as judge on BBC talent show The Voice.

Bass player Simon Rix spoke to Argus entertainment reporter Dom Smith ahead of the gig.
He said: “We make it our ambition to make sure everyone had best time ever.

“We are not just band who get up and play songs for cash. We’re really looking forward to playing Brighton and doing a small intimate venue.

“It’ll be a great show. We’ll put as much into as if we were headlining Glastonbury or doing an enormo-dome. Our fans know it, too.

“We’ll get everyone going, that’s one of our strengths. A lot of that is down to Ricky he is very competitive person. He is determined everyone has a good time no matter what he has to put himself through.”
