A funfair, Punch and Judy show, a  dog show and a miniature locomotive  were among the attractions at the  ever-popular Hove Carnival.

The annual event, organised by the  Hove Lions and Martlets Hospice, is now in its 41st year and is expected to raise around £20,000 for the two organisations.

Other attractions at the event at  Hove Park yesterday  included  Zumba and hip hop dance performances, the Royal Navy's field gun show, Gladiator duelling, Sumo football, swing boats and a coconut shy.

There was also a wide range of stalls featuring crafts, homemade produce and refreshments and a sheepdog display using ducks.

The bad weather did not stop people of all ages coming along to enjoy the various activities and events on offer and make the most of  the afternoon's celebrations.

The money will be divided between the two charities, with the Lions using theirs to support local good  causes.

The Hove-based hospice provides end of life care services to adults with  terminal illnesses.

It is not part of the NHS and so relies on the support of the community and events like the carnival to help it keep going.

The hospice must raise £9,000 a day  to continue with its services for  patients and their families.
