A STAR of the original St Trinian’s film will be hosting a themed-evening to mark the 60th anniversary of its release.

Annabelle Heath (formerly Covey) played Maudie the bookmaker in the 1954 film The Belles of St Trinian’s, which also starred Alastair Sim as the headmistress.

To celebrate the milestone, she has organised a screening of a digitally remastered version of the film where viewers are encouraged to turn up dressed for the occasion.

Polly Baber (formerly Drewett), who played the part of Celia in the film, will also be at the screening. Mrs Heath, who was born in Newcastle but has spent most of her life in Shoreham, said: “It should be a great event and it will be delightful to see people in St Trinian’s dress. “That part is optional, but there’ll be a bottle of Moët et Chandon for the best-dressed St Trinian.”

The event will be held at West Street Loft, West Street, Shoreham, on Thursday, June 12 at 7pm. Entry to the screening is £5.

The proceeds will go to the Adur Art Collective and Herons Dale Primary School in Shoreham. Mrs Heath, who has walked the red carpet at the premieres of the two most recent St Trinian’s films, in 2007 and 2009, said: “It’ll be lovely to see people there supporting both charities.

She added: “I’m very glad I was involved in The Belles of St Trinian’s because that’s the best one, I believe, and the very first.”

There will also be food and refreshments, a quiz and the opportunity to meet and speak to both St Trinians.

Mrs Heath said: “The Belles of St Trinian’s have had some really nice events – if we don’t do any more in the future this will be a nice night to end on.

“Thursday is open to everyone – it would be very nice if as many people came along as possible to support the evening and the local charities.”
