THE Argus is making a final call for suggestions for our City Makers initiative.

The scheme will mobilise staff from some of Brighton and Hove’s biggest employers to take part in activities that will benefit the city.

Southern Water, Legal and General and American Express have already partnered up with us for the scheme.

The first project of City Makers was the Big Beach Clean Up which took place last month.

Employees from all three companies joined hundreds of volunteers on May 27 at Brighton beach to collect over ten tonnes of rubbish.

Graham Precey, head of corporate responsibility and ethics at Legal and General, said: “The City Makers Initiative is a good approach to get people working together so we are more than happy to help.”

Michael Beard, editor of The Argus, praised The Big Beach Clean Up volunteers and urged more people to come forward with ideas for the initiative.

He said: “I’d like to say a heartfelt thanks to everyone who turned up to support the beach clean – the first project for our City Makers.

“What really struck me was the desire and willingness to carry out something that makes a real difference.

“That was just the start. We’re looking for a number of projects we can carry out to make the city an even better place.”

The aim is to make the city a better place to live, work and play.

Readers are invited to suggest projects for the initiative.

From tidying beaches to regenerating a community space, let us know what project you want help with and this newspaper will aim to help you.
