The driver of a BMW that burst into flames after crashing into another car has died from his injuries.

Ashley Abidoph, 28, was at the wheel of a BMW 520 when it smashed into a BMW 320 on June 28 in Polegate.

Emergency services were called to the junction of the A27 and Gainsborough at 7.47am.

Mr Abidoph, of Bowley Lane, Crystal Palace, London, was pulled from the burning car and flown by air ambulance to St George's Hospital, Tooting.

A 22-year-old man from London was arrested on suspicion of attempted car theft, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified. He was bailed until July 18. Two other men were arrested at the time on suspicion of car theft, but were later released with no further action.

The driver of BMW 320, a 45-year-old man from Eastbourne, suffered minor injuries and his passenger, a man aged 39 also from Eastbourne, suffered a serious back injury.
