Caroline Lucas to publish diaries

The country's first Green MP will have her diaries published in a new book.

Brigton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas has signed a deal for her first sole authored book titled No Honourable Friends: Parliament and the Fight for Change.

The book, which is part diary and part "scathing analysis of the failure of the parliamentary system", will be published on the eve of the election in May next year.

The announcement has been made on the website of publisher Portobello Books, who also include journalist Yasmin Alibhai-Brown among their stable of authors.

Senior editor Max Porter told The Bookseller: "No Honourable Friends will combine insights into the working life an MP with a much-needed critique of the way we are governed.

"Free from the finger-pointing polemics and rampant hypocrisy of most political books, Caroline’s book will be required reading for anybody interested in how the country works, and how it might work better.”

Caroline exemplifies the rich hobbyist politicians who use their constituencies as a stepping stone in their pursuance of a career. She had no connection with Brighton before being voted, she took over six months to move here after being voted in because her children had to finish their private education and since being voted in and has made no attempt to represent anything other than her personal agenda since being voted in. Ban on page 3? Not exactly the issue of the moment in Brighton is it.

I wonder how she will deal with the chapter where she shafted Keith Taylor to become leader of the party and parliamentary candidate for Brighton Pavilion? I'm not a Green but knew Keith for years as an honourable man, a good politician and a man who had the interests of the people of Brighton at heart. Many of you won't remember how she managed to get him deselected as candidate fir this constituency and the party bought him off with a one way ticket to Brussels. A softener for him not to be seen as a whinger. The outrage in the city when it happened was palpable but you Greens out there will have chosen to forget that in your desire to get this self publicist into power as your leader.
