City sports festival proves huge success

A SCHOOL sports festival, brought together by the Brighton and Hove City Council and the TAKEPART scheme, has been dubbed a huge success.

The two main events, the primary school athletics competition and the primary school swimming gala, brought together more than 50 schools.

The primary athletics competition saw 39 schools battle it out while the primary swimming gala was fought out between 19, including the disability swimming gala.

There were three different divisions to the athletics competition and two different competitions in the swimming gala.

Queen’s Park School did especially well, coming first in one of the swimming gala competitions and second in the big schools in the city athletics competition.

Emma Greenough, Brighton and Hove School Games organiser and Active for Life project manager for children and young people, who organised the events, said: “We had two really great days and it was great to have all schools attend and take part.

“The primary swimming galas were for all students of all standards to get involved whilst trying to encourage kids to be active.”

The events also attracted plenty of helpers, with sports leaders from a number of schools including Dorothy Stringer, Cardinal Newman and Blatchington Mill, who helped and volunteered, which allowed the events to run smoothly.
