The family of Brighton-based actress Dora Bryan has announced her death.

Mrs Bryan who starred in Last of the Summer Wine, the St Trinian’s films and Absolutely Fabulous died today. She was 91.

Prior to her death she had been living at Springfields Nursing Home in Hove.

In her later life she was confined to a wheelchair but attended an exhibition to celebrate her career at Rottingdean Museum last year.

Mrs Bryan passed away with her sons Daniel and William Lawton at her bedside.

Daniel Lawton said: "It was heartbreaking but it was peaceful. She just left us.

"She was a tiny woman but her constitution was incredible.

"She loved being on stage, that's what she wanted. Not only did she do it, but she was good at it.

"She was a star, and a mum."

Mrs Bryan had owned Clarges Hotel in Marine Parade, Brighton, with her late husband Bill Lawton, who she met when she was 18.

They lived together in Hove up until his death.
