A DEDICATED pupil who has never missed a day of school will be taking a well-earned summer break.

Jamie Wood, 11, from Rottingdean, has never missed a day of school since he was a four-year-old in reception.

The St Margaret’s Primary School pupil kicked off his summer holiday yesterday – but not before teachers praised his commitment.

Jon Gilbert, Jamie’s deputy head teacher, said his star pupil’s achievement was “remarkable”.

He added: “I’ve never seen anything like it in 27 years of teaching. He’s been in every day possible and I’ve never once had a call from his mum telling me he was ill.

“Jamie deserves to have a fantastic summer off after his great effort at school.”
