AQUARISTS hope to breed a new generation of a rare fish from eight babies now on display.
The captive-bred Banggai cardinalfish (CORR) are growing up in a nursery tank at the Blue Reef Aquariam in Hastings.
The tropical, black-and-white breed has only ever been discovered in the wild in the reefs of the Banggai Islands, between the Philippines and Australia.
Blue Reef’s Leanna Lawson said: “This obviously makes them extremely rare.”
The captive-bred fish are three centimetres long and said to be feeding well.
