A MEETING is taking place to discuss a proposed residents’ parking scheme.
The Triangle Community Group (TCG) is concerned about Brighton and Hove City Council’s approval to extend the Area J Residents Parking Scheme in the Lewes Road triangle area.
Maureen Winder, of the TCG, said she had a number of issues with the proposed scheme, including the low consultation response, that up to 70% of residents are students or short-term residents and the impact on older residents who would have to pay for visitors’ permits.
She said: “I object to the lack of evidence that this is needed in every street, although I respect the need for some kind of scheme in Park Crescent and the surrounding area, where there were calls for a scheme to stop pavement parking and to ensure access for emergency vehicles.”
A council spokesman said 61% of respondents were in favour of the parking scheme being extended. The meeting is at the Phoenix Community Centre in Phoenix Place, Brighton, on Monday from 6pm to 8pm.
