The 16-year-old was killed at Wivelsfield Station yesterday at about 7.30pm.
British Transport Police attended the scene along with South East Coast Ambulance Service staff.
The boy, from the Hassocks area, was pronounced dead at the scene and his death is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

A spokesman said: “The boy’s family has been informed, and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”
The train was the 6.30pm Bognor Regis to London Victoria service, operated by Southern Railway.

The lines were reopened at about 9.30pm with short-notice alterations and delays.
