A crackdown on bike sheds has been halted after a public outcry.

Conservative councillor Ann Norman said formal enforcement for two bike shed enforcement cases in Bates Road, Brighton, has been put on hold while further investigation takes place.

Twenty-one residents in the Withdean area of the city have received notices telling them to remove cycling sheds built without planning permission.

Green Councillor Phelim MacCafferty, chairman of the city’s planning committee, agreed that clarity was needed on the issue and said officers will examine the bike sheds policy and compare with bike-friendly Oxford City Council policy.
