A cyclist was taken to hospital after a hit and run in which she was thrown into a wall.

The 33-year-old from Uckfield was cycling along Markstakes Lane, south of Newick, on Friday (August 1) at 5.20pm when she was hit by a white van.

She was thrown from her bike into a bridge wall injuring her hand, thigh and knee.

The driver did not stop.

She was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton for her injuries which included a dislocated finger and deep bruising and soft tissue damage to her thigh and knee.

Police are appealing for the driver of the van, thought to be a white Ford Transit, to come forward. They are also calling for any witnesses to get in touch.
