MYSTERY surrounds how a man was seriously wounded in his hand.

The 50-year-old was found by a member of the public at 8.49pm on Monday in Duke Street, Littlehampton, with a serious wound to his hand that was bleeding heavily.

Detective Sergeant Colin O'Hare added: "A trail of blood suggests that he may have come from the direction of Church Street and the Arun council building. However, his recollection of the incident is sketchy."

The man, from the local area, was taken to hospital and transferred to the Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, for specialist treatment.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
