A GLITZ of glamour descended on Brighton Racecourse for the 13th annual Ladies’ Day.

Spectators were treated to a glorious day of sunshine as well as a top quality card of racing.

The highlight of the day was the Best Dressed Lady award, awarded to Suzi Burbridge, 36, of Hassocks, who won an 18 carat diamond necklace.

She said: “This was just a last minute girls’ day out so I’m shocked, it’s been a fabulous day and I’ll definitely be wearing the necklace at next year’s Ladies’ Day.”

Lizzie Beland, 23, from Hailsham, was nominated for the Best Dressed Lady Award and agonised over her outfit before the day.

She said: “It’s a lovely day, I wasn’t sure whether to wear a fastener or not, someone asked me if I was going to a wedding earlier!”

Elsewhere, there was a coming of age moment for Lucy Rowe, a lettings advisor from Brighton celebrating her 20th birthday.

She said: “It is the first time we’ve come to the races.

“My Mum always used to say to me as soon as you’re 20 we’re going to the races so it’s been champagne all the way, it’s been great.”

Hannah Stewart and Victoria Myhrhagen, both 28 from Essex, also enjoyed Ladies Day with their mothers whilst taking the opportunity to enjoy a day in Brighton.

Even people on more official business were able to let their hair down.

Rachel Morley, 27, a PR worker from London, enjoyed the day whilst being entertained by clients.

She said: “It’s always a really fun day, everyone’s got their glad rags on and enjoying themselves.”

The party didn’t stop for some punters after the last race with live music supplied from The Riffz in the Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure.
