A 50-YEAR-OLD woman was assaulted in a recreation ground.

The woman was verbally abused by a group of youths and struck in the face with a motorcycle helmet, police said.

She suffered heavy bruising in the assault at the Archery recreation ground, Eastbourne, between 4pm and 5pm last Monday (August 4).

Police say they are looking for a male suspect, described as white, about 18, of slim build and with short brown hair.

PC Jon Attfield of the Eastbourne Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "This particularly nasty incident took place near to the play area.

"It is possible that someone saw this happen and we urge them to come forward to assist with our enquiry".

Eastbourne police have been focusing on the recreation ground in recent weeks, following reports of anti-social behaviour there.

Residents near to the play park have been visited to discuss the recent issues, a Sussex Police spokesman said.
