A non-league Sussex football club has stepped into the world of corporate hospitality.

But Lewes Football Club isn’t dreaming of glitzy grandstand glass boxes – it’s opted for beach huts instead.

The Ryman Premier side, which enjoys crowds of 700-800 people a game, has built four of the corporate box-style huts at its ground.

They sit at one end of The Dripping Pan, on the grass banks near the top of the club’s Philcox Stand.

Far from being sparse sheds, however, those watching The Rooks in action get a well-stocked minibar, free snacks and free wi-fi.

The spacious 8ft square huts are big enough to seat six people and are being hired out on a first come, first served basis for the season.

Not only will they cater for footballing spectacles, they may prove a “more unusual place” to hold business meetings.

Lewes FC commercial manager Kevin Miller said: “We thought we’d dip our toe into the glamorous world of corporate hospitality but at this level we couldn’t stretch to Premier League-style luxury.

“That said, our prices are a little more reasonable than the Premier League.

“These beach huts offer something a little different with entertaining, honest football set against a backdrop of the beautiful Sussex Downs.

“How many other football clubs in the world can offer that?”

The beach huts were up and running for Lewes’s game against Margate yesterday in which The Rooks unfortunately crashed to a 5-1 defeat.

On the same day, the club unveiled a 20ft billboard for the No More Page 3 campaign.

It encourages people to sign a petition asking The Sun newspaper to stop printing pictures of topless women on page 3.

The board is in place for the season due to a partnership between Lewes and No More Page 3 Brighton and Hove.

Mr Miller added: “We are delighted to welcome the No More Page 3 campaign to Lewes Football Club.”

The beach huts are available for hire seasonally from September 1 until May 31, 2015, and on a limited match to match basis (first come, first served).
