A Mid Sussex town is preparing to welcome Sir Bradley Wiggins with a riot of colour.

Haywards Heath is combining its annual Town Day celebrations, a spectacular military parade and stage seven of the Tour of Britain race through the town.

Olympic and Tour de France Champion Sir Bradley zooming along South Road is expected to draw in thousands.

Organisers estimate the race will pass through Haywards Heath at about 12.25pm, with South Road closed to traffic from 11.45am until 2pm and rolling road closures.

The town will have fairground rides, a dog show and a charity mascot competition.

After the tour there will be a military and veterans’ parade from Sussex Road roundabout to Victoria Park, where the Royal Yeomanry will be granted the Freedom of the District.

The Royal Yeomanry incorporates the Sussex Yeomanry, an Army Reserve regiment that has a long association with the Mid Sussex District.
