A woman was bitten by a dog as its owner watched and said nothing.

The attack happened at about 4.50pm on Wednesday (August 27) as she was walking to her car in Austen Walk, Eastbourne.

A man with a dog walked past. The dog began to jump up at the woman and then bit her on the hand.

The owner, who saw what happened, left without leaving his details.

The dog is described as a boxer or pitbull terrier-type dog and the owner was described as a white man, in his 40s or 50s with stubble, wearing a yellow and brown lumberjack-style jacket.

PC Ed Faulkner said: “Owners have responsibilities to keep their dog under control, including using a muzzle where appropriate.

“This incident is worrying as the owner didn't stop and talk to the woman.

“We are conducting enquiries into this matter and we would be grateful for any help people can give to identify the dog, or the owner.”
