IT WAS smiling and painted faces all round as an outstanding nursery celebrated its tenth birthday.

Staff and children were in celebratory mood as they marked the birthday of the Brighton and Hove City Council run Cherry Tree Nursery.

Popular local entertainer Mr Pineapple Head was the star of the show for the birthday celebrations at the nursery in Hollingdean children’s centre in Brentwood Road.

The nursery was rated “outstanding” by inspectors during its most recent Ofsted visit.

Cath Linstrem, who co-manages the nursery with Alison Clough, said: “We pride ourselves on making Cherry Tree a lovely place for our children to come to and also a lovely place to work.”

Councillor Sue Shanks, chair of the council’s chair and young people committee, said: “Our Cherry Tree nursery does a fantastic job giving local people the chance to fulfil their potential.”
