TRAIN services across the Southern network are suffering knock-on delays after a lorry crashed into a bridge.
The 14:58 Eastbourne to Haywards Heath will start late from Eastbourne and will run fast to Lewes. 15:58 will run as scheduled.
A spokesman for Southern Rail said: “At 10.54, we received a report of a lorry striking the Portland Road bridge, in the Norwood area of London near East Croydon. Because of this, all lines across the bridge were closed, and Southern services to London Bridge were diverted to run via Norbury. This meant train services were being delayed by approximately 45 minutes, with short notice alterations to some services.
“Once the bridge was inspected by Network Rail, the all-clear was given and the bridge re-opened to trains at 11.32. Trains are now running again, but there are residual delays as a result of the initial disruption. Southern tickets are being accepted on Thameslink services, London Overground services, London Buses and on Tramlink.”
