Campaigners will continue their bid to save a historic bath house from demolition with a protest gathering.

The Brighton and Hove branch of Ukip have organised a protest outside Medina House in King’s Esplanade, Hove, at 10am on Saturday as their battle to retain the Victorian building progresses.

A newly-submitted planning application for the bath house proposes the demolition of the building which was damaged in an arson attack on December 20.

Campaigners trying to save the building have been cheered by the news from Brighton and Hove City Council officials that they are taking action to ensure the site is kept in good order.

Ukip council candidate Nigel Furness has been told by the authority’s enforcement officer that landowners have been contacted and ordered to restore hoardings that have blown down at the seafront site.

Landowners have also been ordered to repaint the exterior of the building and replace windows broken during the fire within three months.

Two separate petitions calling on Brighton and Hove City Council to buy the property under compulsory purchase order have been set up at both the council’s own epetition site and at the equivalent site run by the government.
